The Mill Valley Cultural Arts Umbrella and the Roosevelt Park Recreation Center will host the second Art in the Park of the year on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plan to attend this great open air art market at Roosevelt Park, under the trees at the intersection of West 36th Street and Falls Road. Bring your own food and drink. MVCAU’s Umbrella Radio again will broadcast onsite; the new Internet radio station was a big hit at the April Art in the Park. Art in the Park, will be held on the second Saturday of each month through October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature artists, crafters and antiques vendors, as well as musical performances and arts-based activities. Come out and enjoy Art in the Park, shop for unique finds and rare treasures, enjoy the music and arts-based activities and explore Roosevelt Park like never before. Proceeds will fund the Mill Valley Cultural Art Umbrella’s Youth Arts Program. To learn more, or to become a vendor, call event organizers at 410-366-7722, or send an e-mail to Eric Willison at

The spring issue of the Maryland Lawyers for the Arts newsletter has articles of interest to artists of all kinds. Maryland filmmakers will profit from reading “What the Maryland Film Office Wants You to Know About Filming on Location in Maryland.” The article answers questions like: How do I get my locations if I have a tiny budget? How do I write a script to avoid difficult, expensive, and hard-to-get locations? Don’t citizens (like me) own public parks and public buildings? What are my unavoidable “hard” costs? What about gunplay or stunts?
Kathi Ash of the Maryland Film Office was the source of information for the article. Meanwhile, the Maryland Lawyers for the Arts’ third annual Jazz Night will be held on Thursday, June 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Clipper Mill pool. Tickets are $35; send an e-mail to
